I tried to do my Duty

posted Thursday, 23 February 2006

Yep, I was called to serve. OK, to possibly serve. I made arrangements to have my shift at the shop covered. I called the neighbor to see if I could drop my kids off early to wait for the bus. Wrote a note to the bus driver in case I didn't make it home in time. Called the neighborhood sitter to see if the kids could be dumped there after school. I followed the instructions on my paper and called last night to see if I was released from duty. No comment. So off I go bright and early, hey, 6:00 am IS early to me. I got up then, showered, made breakfast, got the girls up, got ready and drove them to the neighbor. Set my sights on the downtown and thought. Why don't I call one more time. Sure enough Jury Group #5 was NOT needed for Jury Duty Selection this morning at 7:45 am. What? Now why didn't they say that LAST NIGHT when they SAID they would? I called after 5:00 pm, and called again at 8:00 pm. Still no info about group #5. Sure group #3 was not supposed to show up, but group #5? No word. I almost went out for breakfast instead. But I came home to get stuff done before going to work. Now my whole day is shot!

Tonight will be Sweater Club. Hope everyone is porgressing nicely. Seems forever since I saw them last. I can't wait to see Elizabeth's progress on the shrug she switched to. She will still work on her sweater, I am sure, but wanted to work on the shrug more. One student should be close to done on her granddaughter's sweater. Size 2 is quick and easy. I will take the baby vet to work on during slow points.

Last night was help at a beginning class for some Girl Scouts. I knew 2 of them and recognized another from school. They were so much fun! 2 already knew how to knit, but I was able to show them how to bind off and taught them long tail cast on. Most left with yarn to make scarves,  excited and passionate about knitting. The leaders tried to thank us with boxes of Girl Scout Cookies, but with 8 boxes in my pantry, and Kevan said they had an equal number, we declined. We just told them to thank us by returning to the shop for all their knitting needs. I think a few will definitely be back for more. They were oohing and aahing at all the yarns. Pure females!

Chris-there was no wearing of the red on Cabutch Day, I will have to consider that next time. I usually celebrate it by smashing tomatoes and doing a dance. It's not pretty, believe me. No photos were taken to document this event. At least, none that I know about!

Blessings: A warm house and a loving family. I know I take it for granted many times. My heart aches for those young souls, lost or abandoned in many countries, including our own. We need to remember, it's not a federal or even state concern. How can a government really effectively deal with these situations. It's a local and personal issue. Be sure to support organizations within your community and churches that work to help these young ones. Hopefully they can get help before their lives are destroyed.
