Pillow Fight

posted Wednesday, 25 April 2007
Now that my pillows are done I need to write up the patterns. The options for finishing these are endless and I need to do another to test the pattern and try a few more finishing options. I hope I don't spend the next month knitting pillows! I do want to try a more controlled striping by using solid colors. Mouse over to see the back. I decided to use up some scrap Noro by striping it. I love it!

Elder was quick to point out it isn't that soft. Kids. Don't they understand that home decor isn't about being soft! I might look into some other yarns we have that are soft when I do the solid striped version. If you look real close you can see some white coming through the fabric. The thin/thick nature of this type of yarn is the culprit. I was even using 2 needle sizes smaller than the band suggests. Still not enough. I ended th epillow by picking up sts around the two pieces and then 3 needle bound off from the right side. (Charlotte just mentioned she did a crocheted slip st to join pillow pieces, I am sure much easier than picking up 232 sts on 2 pieces!) It made a nice edging. Definitely the way to go. Mattress stitching is my fav, but the bind off ridge is nicer. It's hard to Mattress while turning corners.

Today is for finishing the grocery shopping and packing for our trip. I can't wait! Mostly because this week is not going smoothly and I want it over with! Once I am in the truck headed to Talladega my running will end for 4 short days. My knitting is packed. Come on, it was the first thing done! My clothes are being collected in the closet. Not much of a fashion show there, so just the basics are needed. Sensible shoes and comfortable clothes. I may need a size larger clothes to accommodate the good eating! Steaks, bacon, mushrooms, potatoes, and anything else we can think of. Must not forget pineapple! I love it grilled with chicken or steak.

Now I'm hungry. OK, not much else going on in the knit scene. I didn't make it to knit last night because of Younger's soccer game. Their first loss. Oh well, they had 3 wins going into it. I had the St st back of the Entrelac pillow to work on, and good thing. I couldn't have concentrated on a difficult pattern. Too worried about the 4 -1 score! I am going to focus on As You Like It II. I would like to have it done before leaving, but with 3 more sections to complete, not likely. Since the rows are only getting bigger it will take longer! This one has drug out like you wouldn't believe! I guess doing 2 pillows in between didn't help it.

Now, I am done. Time to get my running going. I hope you have a great day and great weather. Please pray for the rain to pass out of the mid south and for sunny skies from Friday to Monday! I really don't want to attend the race on Monday and drive home after it like last year. Especially since we got home at midnight and had to argue about how to get the camper in the back yard! At least this year the camper will stop in Kentucky on the way home.

Blessings: Not feeling very blessed right now, more stressed. But I guess I can be thankful for the sunshine that continues to shine, even when the forecaster keep predicting rain and thundershowers. They can't even get day to day forecasting right and they expect me to believe in Global Warming? Now I don't know which side of that political issue you come down on, but in studying it, all I find are one group of scientists* contradicting another group of scientists* I don't believe we are barreling towards doom, that's just what the media use to sell their programs. S@x, gloom and doom get viewers. Even keeled reporting gets you nothing. I am just trying to do what I can to recycle or reuse what I have. If it can be of help to someone else, I don't throw it away, I donate it to charity. I use both sides of the paper when printing patterns. I reuse school papers that come home with only one side used. I only turn on the lights I need and try to get the girls to do the same. But I will only give up my, fairly fuel efficient, van when the Politicians and Hollywood give up their SUVs, personal jets, and only own 1 house. How dare they preach to me about my consumption.

*Actually, I can find very little put out there by scientists. I see all kinds of Myth/Fact pages going one way or the other. But they are from social groups, environmentalists, kooks, and all other kinds of organizations. Each have their facts to back up what they say and, oftentimes, it's the same issue with a different spin.
