What did I tell you. Coherent thought. Not around here today. I'd be glad if I could even find a thought in my head other than, "Man, my throat hurts!" or "When will the nose stop draining?". Yes, that is all that concerns me today. Making up the lost sleep. Nah, I know that will never happen. I lost a total of 7 hours last night. Got home and slept in 30 minute periods from 7:30 until noon. By my calculations I am still missing about 3.5 hours.
And just why didn't I sleep. You would think it was that they stayed up all night. A few almost made it, but not the entire evening. It could have been the 4 movies they showed. Nope, although the noise probably contributed to it. What was the cause? Allergies! They have gotten so bad here in our area, that it came to a head for my sinuses last night. Of all nights. But I went prepared with every over the counter med known to man. I take a Claritan generic, so no need for prescrip on that. My Dr gives me Flonase samples to get me through the seasonal stuff, had that. I had Mucinex to aid in the drainage. Went to CVS and got Sudafed to stop the drainage and Chloraseptic(?) strips for the throat on fire. I dosed myself on a regular basis, it wasn't hard since I was awake when I was ready for another round. I had lemon drops, mints and water bottles ready for the dry mouth I anticapted. You'd think I had it all under control?
Well, we're both wrong! I couldn't lay prone, on the lovely air matress I brought, because my throat was irritated by the drainage. I can't sleep upright, just because I am not made that way. Semi prone? Didn't work either. The minute my head was less than vertical it started, cough, cough. By 4:00 am I got up, and gave up my spot on the mattress to a little girl who was having a hard time on the hard floor. I never was so glad to see 7:00 am!! It's something I usually don't see.
But the entire evening wasn't a loss. I was able to find some time to sit and knit. Once the movies started I hunkered down in my knitting chair and went to town on Erin's sleeve. I know, I said I shouldn't work on it while there, but I couldn't resist. And I was making progress until, boom, boom, boom, out went the lights! Not from the 3 storms that went through, lights out time. So I put the knitting away. But then noticed that the boys bathroom entrance provided a glow, so I moved my stuff and continued on. After a bit I put Erin away and got out Tweed, much easier to knit St st in the round without color changes, than Fair Isle knit flat with sleeve shaping. And here is where I am back to. I won't bother to show you how close it looks to the one I ripped out yesterday, it's almost the exact same row.
So, did I survive the night? Sure I did, I am just a little rough around the edges and not so perky today. Will I ever do it again? Not until Younger gets the chance to go, 3rd grade is her first shot. But I will only do one more overnight and the rest will just be the early shift. This was the first year the PTA tried it and it was a rousing success, I am sure we will continue to do it. It recognizes those who have achieved a high level of the Life Skills that are taught at our school. I am proud of both girls for being chosen as leaders from their classrooms. Younger gets a sundae party as they didn't feel it a good idea to include the K-2nd grades. We even had some 3rd graders who didn't make it all night. Poor things. But at least they tried.
Well, family went off to enjoy pizza with friends. I plan to enjoy the peace and quiet of the house and find my way back to bed soon. Still need to make up those missing hours and possible get ahead on tonight's sleepless night!
