Don't mittens usually have 2 to a pair? That's just an old wive's tale. Real kids only wear one mitten! Ok, I am actually going to make the 2nd one today. But I have to hurry or it won't be finished in Sept! I know, only I care for my little photo album correctness.
The mitten quite took me by surprise. I have a large oak basket that I made a year ago in my sewing room. As it is next to my kitchen I pass this room a lot and the basket is right by the doorway. The basket is full to overflowing with sock yarns! The skein I used was sitting on top. I purchased it thinking it was going to be a lot deeper in purples and lime. It is too pastel for me. So I threw it on the pile and endeavored to forget it. But as I have passed every day it has been saying... 'Knit me!". OK, I know all of my yarns say that, and the ones that have been imprisoned in my stash the longest are screaming it by now! But this yarn really wanted to get out and play. And maybe I was tired of looking at it and remembering the disappointment I felt since it didn't live up to my expectations. So I grabbed it and a mitten pattern and knit it, twice! Well I actually read the pattern wrong and made it too short. I redid it and it's still a little short, but what the hay! I still have enough yarn left over to make 3 more mittens. Which would be nice since there is only 1 so far.
In secret knitting news I am almost finished with the 2nd of 3 items and will felt it today. So much fun to approach the end. In sock darning news, NOT! Haven't picked it up since I stuck a US2 in it to save the loose sts. I know, it would be so quickly done. But I can't stand it! And here I ordered Kim to finish her sleeves for her sweater and I am a chicken to fix something! Ok, shame has led me to go fish out the sock yarn leftovers for that sock! See ya later.
