What a great trip!

posted Thursday, 23 June 2005

It was the best. Shade of the upper decks. Nice view of home plate and all the bases. No pole sitting in my line of view. Except the fact they didn't allow the knitting into the park. Fiddlesticks, um, has such lovely stuff. There I was all ready to work on the string bag, and there HE was denying my needles access to the game (which was really not a big deal). OK, so I will just people watch. Which never really happened because I was busy checking out the ball park, the lunch menu-we were served in our seats, the players, the Build A Bear Workshop (which had the team mascot Gapper and a Special Edition BallPark Bear, we got one of each), the ice cream (for the girls, not me, I am on an ice cream diet, no more for me during bathing suit season), and just all the stuff. Looked to be a boring game, 0-7 Reds, until Cards tried to make a come back and scored 6 runs, just not enough. But 3 homers between 2 players made for some good game.

So if I didn't knit at the game, does that mean it was a wash for the entire trip? Not at all. 4ish hours in car on the way allowed for finishing sleeve 1 and casting on sleeve 2. Down time in the Westin Hotel (we visited the fountain shown in the photo) and at dinner allowed for work on String Bean to progress. Dinner should have been at Nicholson's Pub, but the girls aren't that adventurous. Pizzeria Uno was perfect for the whole family. Baked Stuffed Chicken was my choice. Who cares what anyone else ate.

5ish hours back home today yielded some time on the bag and the 2nd sleeve. 5 hours? Why so? Hubster missed the 71 split on 75, and we ended up getting stopped by a major wreck. Got directions to avoid the wreck and get back on 75 to Lexington, and then turned right for Lousville. By the time we got back on 75 there was still no traffic getting through the wreck, sure hope no fatalities.

All in all, I decree it was a great trip, one I will willingly make again. Or, as soon as I convince the GABP that my knitting needles are dangerous only to my financial health!

*stuffed with spinach, broccoli and tomatoes with Assiago cheese melted on top, definitely something I will try to duplicate

Candi, sorry to respond here, but I had no email or blog addy for you. J's bag is an adaptation from the Daypack from Two Old Bags, as is the Lucy Bag which is the red and blue one. The patterns are available from most yarn shops. I glad you like the bags, I am sure you will enjoy making them too. Thanks for stopping by.
